This course discussed media effects research and theory with an emphasis on the scientific study of social psychological processes that facilitate or inhibit these effects. Throughout the entirety of the course, it focused on the complexities of developing and executing media effects research and paid close attention to current social, political, and cultural events that shaped my understanding of media effects.

Social Media Strategies

This course offered a broad survey of contemporary thinking about social media and examined mediated practices across sectors such as health care, education, government, museums, tourism, and business. As a result, I was exposed to various contemporary notions of information behavior, the historical evolution of new media environments, and examined how people aimed to bring about particular outcomes via social media.

Popular Entertainment

Surveyed historical and contemporary global popular entertainment as cultural events such as: vaudeville, theatrical spectacle, film and television, heritage festivals, living history, live and televised sports, and cultural festivals.

Strategic PR

This class introduced me to the strategic planning process required of public relations professionals in developing programs and campaigns. Additionally, I learned how to develop, implement, and evaluate effective strategies, with a focus on building and maintaining beneficial relationships with key stakeholders.

Leadership Principles & Practices

This course introduced a broad range of readings addressing practical and theoretical leadership principles. My coursework consisted of critically examining readings and associated videos/movies.

Intro. to Adobe Creative Cloud

I learned how to produce multimedia texts using  Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. I used Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop,  Adobe Rush, and Adobe XD for three major projects. In addition, I became familiar with basic design, copyright, and accessibility issues related to writing multimedia texts.

Digital Storytelling & Culture

Built on my understanding of how stories shape communities, identities, memories, and perspectives on our lives. In addition, this course provided opportunities for the theoretical analysis of self-representation, composite narratives on behalf of others, cultural heritage, and memories as they are preserved and performed within stories and through narrative.

Communication & Conflict Management

I was happy to gain a better understanding of conflict management processes and challenges, in order to develop new ways of managing conflicts constructively.
